There is a general opinion that going green is just a hype, that although offers a solution, does nothing significant to the environment and society.
Roger Browne, the writer of a knol about green electricity implementation, indicates that depending entirely on renewable energy is possible.
The main idea is to mix and match types of renewable energy generator, as well as setting up a system that allow us to aggregate the renewable energy sources and apply it to address the main issues of energy: pricing and availability.
One example of implementation that Roger explained is the use of solar cell, combined with the use of wind generators, as well as water-generated electricity.
Regarding pricing, Roger explained that a ‘float’ system can be applied, where price is low where energy supply is abundant, and vice versa.
In my opinion, although possible, implementing such ‘power balancing’ and ‘float’ system is a major headache, not even considering the cross-continent physical implementations. But, just like the Netherlands’ dams a reality today, fully-dependence on green energy has its possibilities.
If you are interested in going green and renewable energy alternatives, I encourage you to visit Roger Browne’s knol.
