It is still hot today, but sport cards collecting today is a totally different world than it was before.

In the past, sport cards collecting is about completing your favourite sports person collections and bartering cards with other enthusiasts. Sport cards collection is viewed as both a hobby and an asset, but not in the way it is viewed today.

Today, sport cards collecting is a big industry and collectors do collect cards, but with different mindset – now, collectors view sport cards as an investment and treat them like a stock in the stock exchange market. Prices can go up or down, entirely depend on the market supply and demand movements.

Sports Cards – A knol by Adam Gellman, explains about five reasons to start and stop collecting.

One of the reasons that caught my interest is the reason number 5 why today is a horrible time to start collecting cards: The Card Collecting Kids We Grew Up As Are Pretty Much Dead.

The average box set of cards has risen almost 80 dollars over the last 10 years. This, along with the change in the way cards are produced, the ‘demographic’ of people who collect are changing, too.

Today, in my opinion, sport cards collecting is more about business than a hobby.
