Statements, such as “You cannot do that! You are too young,” are too often heard and considered a norm in our society.

A knol by Solomon Tse – Ageism: Discrimination Against Age – is a valuable resource to understand and explore what is ageism and why ageism is damaging, especially if the subject is still in childhood years.

Solomon’s statement that caught my attention is this:

“Children are ignored. Adolescents are not trusted. Young adults do meet expectations or lack the experience. Middle-aged individuals are lazy and arrogant. Elderly people are incapable and dying. There is mutual hatred between all the age groups.” – Ageism: Conclusion

In my opinion, there is an ‘ageist’ in each of us, only the amount and severity differ.
